THE DESIGN CONCEPT OF TUFO TUBULARS

TUFO TUBS ARE A UNIQUE INNIVOTIVE DESIGN CONCEPT THAT DIFFERERS FROM TRADITIONAL TUBULARS AS FOLLOWS

BUTYL LAYER - IN PLACE OF THE CONVENTIONAL INNER TUBE THERE IS AN AIRTIGHT BUTYL-RUBBER LAYER WITH A SOLID BOND TO THE CARCASS, THIS ELIMINATES THE FRICTION BETWEEN THE TUBE AND THE CARCASS, A MAJOR FACTOR IN LOWERING ROLLING RESISTANCE. THE BUTYL LAYER HAS LOWER AIR PERMIABILITY THAN LATEX SO PRESSURE IS RETAINED FOR LONGER.

CARCASS PLIES - TWO RUBBER CORD COMPOSITE PLIES ARE BONDED RATHER THAN THE CONVENTIONAL SEWN CONSTRUCTION GIVING THE FOLLOWING ADVANTAGES:-

  • THE CONVENTIONAL OVERLAP IN THE RIM TAPE AREA, TO PROVIDE SUFFICIENT THICKNESS FOR SEWING, IS NOT REQUIRED INSTEAD THE OVERLAP OCCURS UNDER THE TREAD PROVIDING GREATER PUNCTURE RESISTANCE WHILST ACHIEVING LOW WEIGHT.

  • THE UNIQUE BONDED CONSTRUCTION ALLOWS HIGHER PRESSURES TO BE USED. MANY TUFO MODELS HAVE AN AMAZING 220PSI MAX PRESSURE AND HIGH PRESSURE IS ANOTHER FACTOR IN LOWERING ROLLING RESISTANCE.

PUNCTURE REPAIR - PUNCTURES ARE REPAIRED USING A HIGHLY EFFECTIVE SPECIAL SEALANT. IT CAN BE USED AFTER GETTING A FLAT, WHEN IT SEALS PUNCTURES UP TO 2 MM IN DIAMETER. ALTERNATIVELY IT CAN BE USED PREVENTATIVELY, IF A PUNCTURE OCCURS THE SEALANT SEALS THE HOLE, MOST OFTEN WITH MINIMAL AIR LOSS, ENABLING THE RIDER TO COMPLETE THE EVENT/RIDE. APPLICATION OF THE SEALANT IS ACHIEVED THROUGH THE VALVE OPENING.
